The Pas de Deux is extracted from the ballet, Alice in Wonderland, by William G. Rose. It depicts the scene where Alice meets the woeful and melancholy Mock Turtle (depicted by the cello) as he interacts with the overbearing and pompous Gryphon (depicted by the horn), as they explain features of the nonsensical world in which Alice has been immersed.
